A propeller is checked during routine aircraft inspections and before flight, with more detailed inspections, servicing and overhaul becoming due at the intervals specified for the propeller model and installation. Requirements can be based on flight hours, calendar time, cycles, operating conditions, Service Bulletins, Airworthiness Directives and the approved maintenance programme.
Any propeller strike, suspected impact, overspeed, lightning event, unusual vibration, oil leak or visible blade damage requires prompt assessment in accordance with approved instructions. Harsh environments and operation from gravel or unprepared strips can justify closer monitoring for erosion and foreign-object damage.
